9/10/14 District Roundtable Meeting

Here is a quick update from the Albemarle District Roundtable Meeting held Sept 10 in Elizabeth City.

I was fortunate to have to opportunity to be present for two special presentations. Christy Cooper who is the Albemarle District Membership Chairman received her Wood Badge Beads. Wood Badge is a Leader Training Course that dates back to 1919 and was taught by Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of Scouting.

Roger Crane was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. The Silver Beaver Award is the highest award that a Council can bestow to recognize registered Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within a council. Pack 164 sends a big congratulations to both Christy and Roger for their well deserved awards.

Debby Rife provided the course catalog for this years Pow Wow. Pow Wow is a Cub Scout Leader training that provides supplemental training on specific areas of scouting. Pow Wow will be October 25, 2014 at Kempsville Middle School in Virginia Beach, Va. Pack 164 would like to send several leaders to this years Pow Wow so if you are interested please let me know as soon as possible.

Nick Epps who is on the Council Day Camp Committee provided some information concerning this summers Day Camp Program. While we are still a long way from Day Camp the planning stages have already started. The Albemarle District is currently looking for a Day Camp Director. If you are interested in potentially taking on this role please contact me for the details.

This months Scouting Core Value is Cooperation. As our Den meetings start this month you will find that the Den activities center around this theme. You will also find this theme repeated in our Monthly Pack Meeting which is scheduled for Sept 23 at 6:30 at the Scout Hut.

Den Leaders and Committee Members please remember that we have a Den Leader Meeting scheduled for Sept 16 at 6:30 at the Scout Hut. This meeting we will present the curriculum and discuss the flow of information among the various positions within the Pack.
