6/13/12 District Roundtable Meeting

On June 13 the Albemarle District had the last Roundtable Meeting of the Scouting Year in Elizabeth City. The big news of the meeting was that the Albemarle District had a new District Executive. Steven Magarow will be taking over as the new District Executive. Steven is an Eagle Scout and lives in the Hertford area so I am eager to get to work with him planning our new scouting year. I would also like to thank Dana Mott for all her help over the past year and wish her well in her new endeavors.

Alot of the meeting was involving questions related to next weeks Day Camp at the Coast Guard Base in Elizabeth City. Angela Dunca has been working really hard to organize the camp and from the sound of things it will be a great experience for all who attend. Angela sent out an email this week to all registered scouts and adults detailing who, what, when, where and how of next weeks Day Camp. If you have not received this email please let me or Alison know and we will forward it to you. The most important part of the packet was the Parental Release Authority form. Angela will need a list of all individuals that will be coming on base to either drop off or pick up scouts as well as all individuals attending the Friday Family Lunch. If she does not get the names of these individuals then they will not be allowed to come onto the base. Attention all scouts attending Day Camp. You will more than likely be eligible for the Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award. This award will earn the scout a pocket flap patch which is really cool. All den leaders if we could have you look over the requirements on the attached link to see if any of your scouts are available so that we can reward them for all there hard work. Here is the link…

As many of you know we are working very hard this summer to achieve the Summertime Pack Award. This requires us to have at least one Pack event during June, July and August with at least 50% of the dens Cub Scouts participating. We are planning several events this summer including a Box Car Derby, a Bike Rodeo and even a Scout night at the Steamers. One other event will be the Scout Weekend at Ocean Breeze Waterpark on August 18 and 19. Admission will be $18.59 and I will pass out a flyer at the Pack Meeting. We will be planning a date for these activities at our next Committee Meeting which will be June 19 at 6pm at the Scout Hut. As soon as we have the dates in place we will let everyone know and will announce at the next Pack Meeting which will be June 26 at 6:30 at the Scout Hut.

We will begin planning for next years Scouting Program for Pack 164 very shortly. The District has provided us with alot of planning resources as well as the Council Calendar for next year. They also provided additional details on how to incorporate Journey to Excellence items into our annual planning.

The Tidewater Council will be having the 2012 Cub Scout Leader Pow Wow on Saturday, October 27 at a yet to be determined location in Virginia. This will be a great opportunity for all of our Pack Leaders to get some quality training on a variety of issues that will help us become better leaders and to maximize the potential of our Pack. I will provide additional information as we get closer to the event.
